About Basketball
Basketball is played on a rectangular court with a hoop 10feet high consisting of two teams of five players. The team with the most points at the end wins. Field goals are worth 2 points, 3 points if shot beyond the three-point line and free shots are worth one point.
Basic Rules
The game starts by a referee tossing a ball up and two opposing players aim to tip it to their teammates. Teams travel with the ball by dribbling or passing to their teammates. The aim is to shoot near the basket or behind the three-point line while players try to block, defend and grab rebounds. Games are devided into four quarters, often lasting around 8-12mins with a break between each quarter and a longer half-time break in the middle.
Skills Needed
Basketball players need to be able to dribble with one hand while defending themselves and preventing the ball from being robbed. They also need to be able to shoot and throw accurate chest passes or bounces towards their teammates. Players also need a good sense of where everyone else is on the court and the ability to make quick decisions.
